Apparently, I’ve unofficially dubbed this the year of making trellises. My next round of trellises were for two celmatises that I planted along the deck…with the hopes of blocking a nosy neighbor’s viewpoint and our view of his offspring getting frisky with her boyfriend in their backyard (no joke…we’ve interrupted them more than once!). My original thought was to run a trellis, something like a tall piece of lattice, that is not lattice. I also wanted something that added some cool structure to the planting bed.
I also wanted to reuse the wood of the purchased trellises that had failed so miserably. Maybe a second itieration was in their future?
Sad broken trellis (one of three).
My idea was to make a sort of climbing structure that looked like a box kite. My ideas are always grand, I just never consider exactly how much of a pain in the butt they will be to execute them.
I started with a pile of 10″ long wood pieces. (This is less than half of the pile I started with…).
And the finished products:
We had a super unseasonably warm March so the vines popped early…unfortunately they got hit with some frost, so they look much grander in these pictures.
